Chris Palmer’s BTACA award-winning Baking Of… ad for Skoda

It was a celebratory evening for Chris Palmer at last night’s British Television Advertising Craft Awards, held at London’s Royal Lancaster Hotel. The director walked away with the Best Direction gong for his witty Carlsberg spot, which reunites some of England’s greatest footie players to create “the best pub team in the world”, and also saw his Skoda Baking Of… ad win three awards, including the most coveted, Best Crafted Commercial of the Year.

Gorgeous (Palmer’s production company) also picked up awards for Best Camera Operator for its Breast Cancer Awareness spot (a joint winner with HLA’s Mastercard Arrivals) and Best Cinematography for the Honda Museum commercial, featuring Honda’s robotic friend Asimo.

Partizan’s VW Golf ad won Best Performance By An Actor

Other happy faces were found on Partizan’s table, who produced the winning spots in Best Casting for its VW Passat Midlife Crisis commercial (joint winner with Another Film Company’s O2 Rugby vs. Football spot), Best Original Music for Choir for Nivea Anti Cellulite Cream (joint with Academy’s Ford Focus Own The Road Again), Best Performance By An Actor for VW Golf The Great Pretender, and Best Production Design for Sunflower Park and Chip Factory for McCain Oven Chips.

Best New Director Johnny Green directed this spot for Audi

Winning the Best New Director award was Knucklehead’s Johnny Green, a director previously tipped for the top in the pages of CR, where he was a One To Watch last year.
