Back in January we posted on Shepard Fairey’s posters in support of the Barack Obama campaign. At the time, some comments cast doubt over how effective the posters would be. Not only is Obama now assured of the Democratic nomination but, we can reveal, sales of Fairey’s posters (shown above) raised over $400,000 to help him get there…

As Banksy’s forays into the world of the white cube have shown, the meeting of grafitti art and the formal art establishment can be an uneasy one. This is reiterated in the current exhibition at Tate Modern, titled simply Street Art, which sees six international “urban” artists create artworks for the façade of the iconic building. The talent of the artists - who include Faile, JR, Nunca, Os Gemeos, Sixeart and the much-admired Blu - cannot be faulted but the method of display feels lazy, with all the works displayed on one side of the museum (to maximise the view when crossing over the Millennium Bridge presumably) where they compete with one another for attention.

For seven days, a giant nest 50 metres up one side of the Weena Tower in Rotterdam has been home for Belgian artist Benjamin Verdonck. He’s recently descended from his lofty abode but as these images reveal, it would have been no mean task getting his nest up there in the first place. And if you’re going to spend a week sitting on a collection of twigs, obviously you’d make sure you had a nice grey suit to wear…

In his first solo UK exhibition, Dutch artist DELTA is set to display a series of works at the Elms Lesters Painting Rooms in London. The graffiti pioneer has gone from tagging the streets of Amsterdam to erecting huge relief sculptures that are equally at home in the urban environment as they are in the gallery. Quite removed from the ubiquitous “street art” aesthetic, DELTA’s pieces offer a coolly constructivist antidote to regular stencils meet pseudo-political sloganeering. For CR’s Graduate Guide, 15 students set to graduate from LCC this year shared their ambitions, frustrations and opinions with lecturer Sarah Temple. Jonathan Ellery of design studio Browns (in green T-shirt) was also on hand to offer advice.

Giving advice to design graduates used to be fairly straightforward (writes LCC’s Sarah Temple): remember you’re a person and not a portfolio. Mingle at design events. Just call up your favourite creative director. Avoid portfolios with zips. But these days, graduation is considerably more confusing and challenging for students. For this reason, LCC invited 15 design students to have a conversation about their hopes, ambitions and concerns as they graduate this summer.
