Crap Idea

Introducing, the Shit Box, this year’s ‘Festival Essential’…

Yes, it’s a cardboard box, but not just any cardboard box. This one has a picture of a happy, smiling turd on the side, for it is the Shit Box “a lightweight portable cardboard toilet, made specifically for outdoor use” according to a press release just received by CR. “The box pops up from its convenient 14” flat pack to a rigid reusable box, you pop in a degradable poo bag, do your business, seal and then dispose”.

The SB, as it’s snappily been titled by the PR who sent it to us, is the brainchild of Richard Wharton, founder of Office shoes (so he knows a thing or two about putting crap in boxes, boom, boom) and Mandy Mayes of branding agency Dry. “Wharton’s quest dates back to Glastonbury 1989 when he simply could not face another trip to the ‘log drop’ [sic] toilets” we are told “Inside his tent was a Kleenex box and this set him thinking…” Yikes. Remind us never to ask Wharton for a tissue.

The SB can apparently hold up to 20 stone in weight - that’s in terms of someone sitting on it rather than the, er, payload, we guess. And it can be yours for just £15.67.

These will be great ammunition for the Carling Weekend sunday night riots.

Can’t wait to try this out at work! This is a total time saver and takes care or having to walk all the way to the bathroom.

£15 quid for a box of cardboard to crap in what a rip off!! They really need to either lower production costs or stop being greedy and thus sell many more units. Good idea thought which is a shame

What about the smell? Is the sealing system effective to keep it inside?

Aside from the rather questionable logic behind the product, how about the designer that decided to design a cartoon poo with a smiley face and perfectly coiffed hair-do?

Thats the best shit idea I have seen in a long while… I’ll get my coat.

Pay £15 to shit on a cardboard box with no protection (everyone within 200 mts can see you) and which leaves a horrible odor around you? And what do you do when you are finished? Do you throw thee crap bag in a garbage bin…?
And then they say its very practical to carry around… are you kidding me? Even folded is 14″! Yes, extremely practical…
And I’m not even going to comment on the illustration…
SHIT ideas like these make me feel even less interested about going to any festival…

Obviously the Phillips Environmental PETT (Portable Environmental Toilet Technology) system is new to you folks. It has been in production in the US for 10 years. The biodegradable bags are landfill approved. I have been using them for wilderness rafting trips with great success.

This company sells a quick pop-up shelter to use in combination with the heavy duty fold up plastic seat. I think the cardboard seat is a nice improvement to the technology for urban areas.

Another great product that would add to the system is the DNA (Down North Adventures) Portable Changing Room, simple a large fabric poncho that covers you with room to change clothing while portected from view. It would work for this application as well.

Improvements in technology that improve our creature comfort and convenience are always welcome.

What a rip off, you can buy 10 double wall cardboard boxes for that price! Just tape it up and cut a circle out on top. I wouldn’t pay £13.50 extra just for a picture of a turd on the side.

This is an absolutely brilliant idea. Will definately come in handy at Leeds and Reading Festivals. Especially as their ‘toilets’ aren’t really toilets!

Hey, at least this thing has a cover. The first version doubled as a robot costume so not only did it have an unprotected top hole, but it had two additional holes cut in the side for arms.

That’s not real!
