Utah Saints, Something Good, directed by Eran Creevy

It’s been a while since we’ve done a video round-up on here, in part perhaps because it feels like it’s been a while since there’s been a strong enough selection of new videos around to do it. Here though are six beauties that are currently doing the rounds. First up is Eran Creevy’s extremely funny video for the 2008 remix of Utah Saints’ Something Good. Quicktime is here.



MGMT, Time To Pretend, directed by Ray Tintori

Next is young director Ray Tintori, who recently signed to Partizan on the strength of this splendid vid for MGMT’s Time To Pretend. Quicktime.



Supergrass, Bad Blood, directed by Keith Schofield

Keith Schofield has directed this new video for Supergrass’ Bad Blood, incorporating some nifty (if slightly nausea-inducing) camera tricks. Quicktime.

REM website for Supernatural Superserious, directed by Vincent Moon

REM has followed Arcade Fire’s recent forays into interactive online videos with this website for track Supernatural Superserious. Directed by Vincent Moon, the site offers 12 little films that the viewer can activate or not as to their whim. It’s good to see that more bands are beginning to embrace the web as a place to experiment with videos but this one does seem a fairly limited use of the possibilities it offers for interactivity, especially as most of the films are just the band playing in various different venues. Morcheeba, Enjoy The Ride, directed by Joel Trussell

Joel Trussell has directed this charming animated video which adds some life to this exceedingly dull track from Morcheeba. Quicktime.



Jay-Z, featuring Pharrell Williams, directed by Philip Andelman

Finally, Philip Andelman has directed this new video for Jay-Z/Pharrell Williams track, I Know. While the vid itself may not be hugely exciting, it seems significant for its lack of hip-hop posturing, or in fact any performances at all. Could we (finally) be seeing a new wave emerging in hip hop promos? Let’s hope so. I couldn’t find a quicktime, so it’s just YouTube I’m afraid - please post a QT link in the comments box if you have one.

Another beauty that is out there at the moment is the new one from those french elctro monkey’s Justice for their tune entitled ‘DVNO’. You may remember how freaking cool the ‘D.A.N.C.E’ vid was but this takes over that mantle….

The MGMT song is great. I’ve downloaded their album on the strength of that track, hope the rest is as good. Looks like Jay-Z is running low on money to create such a bland video (and song).

I agree with dan greenwood: DVNO, by Justice, deserves a space in Creative Review’s Pick of the Month. (Although I don’t think it outclasses their video for D.A.N.C.E.)

think the mgmt one is the best video ive seen for ages. its bristling with energy and ideas, good track as well although i think album is a bit dissapointing. can you imagine the director ’s pitch for it?

‘ok.. they’ll like giant cats, and you’ll be riding them! for real! and then you’ll be stripped to the waist and then like big badly drawn monsters YEAH WITH LIKE LOADS OF TEETH will come along and you’ll fire arrows at them and then like they’ll be like exploding into millions of dolphins like and then you’ll be dancing on beach and like ZEBRAS MAN FUCKING ZEBRAS WE’LL GET ZEBRAS coming in and then they’ll be money, you’ll burn money BURN MONEY!! and an army of celloists will come in and and and..’

MGMT have also embraced online interactivity with their video for ‘Electric Feel’, which is very lo-fi and fun.
