Photographer Jason Hawkes has been up in his helicopter again, producing a stunning set of images of London at night.

London-based Hawkes has specialised in aerial photography since 1991. In that time he has produced over 25 aerial photographic books, and his advertising and design clients include brands such as Nike, HSBC, Ford, American Airlines, Rolex, Toyota, Smirnoff, Mitsubishi and BP. These images were all shot this year, from a twin squirrel helicopter (which looks like this in case you’re interested).

Hawkes has two more books, Hawkes Eye View London and Hawkes Eye View Britain, out shortly published by AA.

Amazing photography,it wouldn’t be half this nice if it was taken by day. I specially like the photo of the football pitches as I used to play football in a place just like that in London every Thursday night, somewhere around Shepperd’s Bush.

wow! I’m most impressed by the sharpness in his images. At night? In a moving, vibrating, vehicle? I would be interested in hearing about his technical specs - camera, lens, etc.

Five out of seven photos of “London” actually of Canary Wharf and the City financial district where the lights burn all night in empty offices and no-one cares about their carbon footprint. He’s no fool this boy. Those banks have our money to burn to buy photos like that for their boardrooms and exhibition stands. There’s a lot more to London than this.

Interesting points from from Terry Miles, still an achievement from a helicopter though.

For a more unique take on light pollution and a change from the usual ‘empty urban spaces at night type fair’ take a look at Spots-of-Time
