Nice work

Cadbury’s Creme Egg ad, agency: Publicis London, director: Chris Cairns, production company: Partizan

Here’s a bumper Easter-style crop of great new advertising work that we’ve been sent at Creative Review recently, starting with a new Creme Egg spot from Chris Cairns at Partizan for Publicis London. The spot acts as a finale for Cairns’ recent series of ads for the super-sweet chocolate snack, which saw the eggs dramatically strip themselves of their foil before gleefully committing suicide in a variety of inventive ways. In this one, we find a crowd of eggs participating in a cult-like mass goo-icide, to hilarious effect.

Sounds of City, adidas film featuring Theo Parrish, agency: 180 Amsterdam, creatives: Samuel Coleman, Dario Nucci, director: James Brown, production company: Stink London

Following its recent ad campaign focusing on adidas founder Adi Dassler, 180 Amsterdam has created a series of new films based on the theme ‘originals’. The films follow a documentary format and show people that adidas feel are representative of the brand. The spot featuring US DJ and producer Theo Parrish is shown above.

180 also worked with photographers Adam Broomberg and Oliver Chanarin for the print campaign, which includes the image shown above.

Nomis ad, agency: Johannes Leonardo, New York, director: Woof Wan-Bau, production company: Nexus

Director Woof Wan-Bau is behind this rather bizarre ad for Nomis sports shoes, which features a reworking of Dem Bones as a soundtrack.

Skittles commercial, agency: TBWA\Chiat\Day, New York, creatives: Craig Allen, Eric Kallman, director: Tom Kuntz, production company: MJZ

This latest spot for Skittles, from TBWA\Chiat\Day in New York, continues the surreal flavour of the brand’s recent ads. This one is based on the unlikely theme ‘piñata man’.

Sony PlayStation, agency and production company: Love, London, director: Terry Hall

This new spot for Sony PlayStation, directed by Terry Hall at Love, is beautifully done though its use of a handmade drawing style feels very reminiscent of ads for Orange. Is it just us, or is it time for advertisers to find something to replace the cutesy, child-like aesthetic that seems to have long overstayed its welcome in adland?

Banana poster, designed by Ollie and Janson, Here’s What You Could Have Won

Finally, to help you get back into shape after the Easter chocfest, designers Ollie and Janson, of the newly formed design company Here’s What You Could Have Won, have created a series of 5-a-day fruit posters, to encourage us to eat our recommended daily portions of fruit and veg. The posters depict pieces of fruit (banana poster shown above), with spaces left for users to place the stickers from the fruit and count up what they have consumed. Yum! Is that Nomis sports shoe commercial for or against the boot? The copy seems to make me think the latter. Honesty may not be the best policy, here, I reckon.

“…cutesy, child-like aesthetic” ?

Not really. That spot was good actually.
Seems like you’re making a sweeping generalization against illustration.

Color and fun won’t be leaving “adland” anytime soon.
