The Sweet Sound of Success

Ode To Ford “Before Overdub” film as hosted on YouTube

In this day and age, it’s never been easier to doctor audio or visual material with tools on our computers. When we posted up the latest Cadbury’s ad from Fallon (that features a host of airport vehicles racing each other to the soundtrack of Queen’s Don’t Stop Me Now) a few weeks ago - almost immediately people responded by posting links to spoof films or versions with soundtracks tweaked for maximum hilarity. On one hand spoofs are made to poke fun at an original piece of work – but on the other, they acknowledge the original as a valid cultural reference point. So you could say, you know you’ve made it when your work is spoofed or parodied.

Well, we admit we’re a little late on this one, but having just watched it (with the sound right up), we had to post it up. It’s a version of Ogilvy London’s Noam Murro-directed Ode To Ford spot (the cringe-inducing one with an orchestra making beautiful music playing instruments all made from various car components) that supposedly features the sound of the instruments “before the over-dub”.

Of course, whether it features the actual sounds of the ford instruments or not, is immaterial. It raises more than just a smile making it a pretty good example of a “made for YouTube” clip at its spoof-tastic best.
