Artist and illustrator Jonathan Farr spent much of last year perched on various balconies and fire escapes at some of London’s landmark buildings – in order to draw city scenes using various implements from dipping ink pens to charcoals and acrylic paint. Shown here are two charcoal drawings created from a vantage point on the 13th floor of Centrepoint in August/September last year which form part of his exhibition of city vistas, entitled Massing, currently showing in the Curzon Soho Cinema Bar in London.

“I got permission to draw up in Centrepoint, which was a lot warmer than when I drew The Thames from a fire escape at the top of the National Theatre in March last year,” says Farr. “And I had easy access to cups of tea and coffee - which helped.”

Farr also created a highly detailed 3 x 1 meter pen drawing of central London from Centrepoint which will be shown in an exhibition on the 18th floor of the building during the London Festival of Architecture from July 3rd to September 3rd, along with the other images created in the building.
