As part of an exhibition entitled 'Bad Teeth,' at East London's Rich Mix Arts Centre, a selected group of London-based artists were asked to respond to the question, what does it mean to be 'English?'

I chose to explore both English pride and pessimism by using my own personal experiences of growing up supporting the English football team as a vehicle for exploring the sequence of emotions- hope, disappointment and doubt, and the repetition of these emotions.

The image of Michael Owen was originally drawn when I was 7 years old, around the time of the France 98 World Cup. I used this as the starting point.
