Monopoly (Super Fun Remix)

This project was undertaken in order to revamp and inspire a new generation of Monopoly players. We thought that the Monopoly brand made business seem simple, while in reality it is a real mindfuck. While the official boards only change the centre and loose items when updated, we decided to remix the whole board with graphic design inspired by Tokyo nights and superflat artwork. We hope you like it.

The board

We took our inspiration from Takashi Murakami style artwork, with a sprinking of Jesse LeDoux figures for good measure.

The 'Chance' cardsThe 'Chance' card phrases were taken from the Hong Kong version, with a few customisations here and there.
Utility cardsWe based the design of the utilities and train stations on the simple iconographic style of the Tokyo metro system signage.
The train cardsAll text is in Helvetica, to retain a West-meets-East aesthetic.
Tokyo 'credits'In a move away from traditional paper money, we decided to do the Japanese thing and miniaturise the cash.
Property cardsA selection of the property cards that we designed. The focus is on the stylistic and symbolic nature of the Japanese language.
