As for so many industries, 2017 has been tough on the ad world, which continues to be buffeted by the winds of change blowing through media and technology. Despite this, a number of campaigns and ideas have emerged that demonstrate that ads can still be a relevant cultural force.

On our list of ten favourites this year are ads that are by turns witty, political and daring. In a climate that can be increasingly bland and conformist, they demonstrate that the brands that go bold will shine brightest.
