Amazon: Alexa’s Body commercial

Category: Writing; Entrant: Lucky Generals

This Amazon Alexa ad was created to run during the NFL’s Super Bowl, the biggest sporting (and advertising) event of the year in the US, attracting over 100 million viewers across all platforms. It followed hit ads for Amazon at the two previous Super Bowls, which had set a tone for the brand for commercials that were funny and sharply written.

For this spot, the team wanted to focus on the beauty of Alexa’s design. But what begins as a product shot ad suddenly takes an unexpected turn, when a female executive imagines what the perfect vessel for Alexa could be, and comes up with actor and heart-throb Michael B Jordan.

Via some sparkling writing, Jordan is then shown taking the form of Alexa and performing the exec’s requests to the portable assistant, much to her husband’s annoyance and the hilarity of the audience.
