With entries now open for the 2015 Creative Review Photography Annual, we are looking back at the big winners from last year. Nick Ballon‘s poignant Ezekiel 36:36 series on Lloyd Aéreo Boliviano tells the story of an airline in dire need of investment.
Art director Gemma Fletcher, one of our judges last year, explains why she chose it as one of our Best in Books: “Every time I return to these pictures, something new is revealed. The multi-layered narrative of the project plays with the paradox of loss and optimism.
“Each image is its own unique tragedy, captured with a delicate use of colour and light bringing hope and beauty to the struggles of the people and places that make up Lloyd Aéreo Boliviano. The surreal portraits of employees, torn between their past, present and imagined future have a quiet beauty, both haunting and captivating.”
