The Design Council has launched a national scheme to find 70 emerging designers to showcase as part of its 70th anniversary celebrations.
70 Ones to Watch is free to enter and open to school, college and university students, recent graduates and those who have been working in design for less than three years.
The Design Council is looking for creatives from a range of disciplines, including graphics and illustration; animation and moving image; interaction and experience design; exhibition graphics and TV, film and set design as well as architecture, craft, textiles, interiors and furniture design.
Selected designers will be featured in a digital showcase and given a ‘Design Council Ones to Watch’ tag to attach to their websites and portfolios. Winners under 30 will also be put forward for a ‘youth sounding board’, which the Design Council plans to launch next year as part of an initiative to improve links with emerging talent.
Entrants must possess “innovation, ambition and vision” and display “the potential to have a bright future, contribute to the creative economy and build the UK’s reputation as a leading design nation.”
The deadline for entries is October 1 and winners will be announced in November. The Design Council will also be scouting at this year’s New Designers exhibition, which kicks off in Islington tomorrow.
