New BBC ad imagines the Euros as a chaotic 3D pinball world

Directed by Balázs Simon and Raman Djafari of Blinkink, the painstakingly crafted spot features an array of footballing easter eggs for fans

As the momentum around the 2024 Euros begins to build, the BBC’s More Twists, More Turns campaign leans into the unpredictability of the football tournament with a film inspired by a giant pinball machine.

Created by BBC Creative and Blinkink, the 40-second spot opens with a backdrop of iconic landmarks from host nation Germany before the pinball ricochets between some of the biggest names in European football.

Directed by Balázs Simon and Raman Djafari, the chaotic 3D pinball world is dressed with bespoke 2D illustrations by Spanish illustrator Kristina Doraura, and feels in keeping with the broadcaster’s previous craft-focused campaigns for major sporting events.

It’s accompanied by an instrumental version of Nothing But Thieves track Welcome to the DCC and pinball-inspired sound design by Gas, and topped off with archival commentary from the likes of Guy Mowbray, Vicki Sparks and Steve Wilson.
