We speak to the artist about how his previous life as a scientist and patent agent for Nike inspires his experimental practice, and why his monster-like characters have blown up on TikTok
“Art has always been the constant thing, an undercurrent in everything I do,” says Bijijoo. While the US-born artist, real name Michael Todd Horne, has been painting and drawing since he was a child, since then he has explored a dizzying array of different career paths.
“I moved to NYC after high school to study filmmaking in college but ended up taking time off from school, and worked as a security guard at the Guggenheim Museum while exploring various art projects on the side. During that time, I became very interested in philosophy, symbolism, and graffiti tagging, which sparked an interest in mathematics which I began studying in earnest,” he tells CR.
