Cartoons go bald to promote cancer awareness

April is Cancer Awareness Month in Brazil, and ad agency Ogilvy Brazil has created a campaign to help support kids with the disease that features various famous cartoon characters – including Garfield, Popeye and Hello Kitty – all with their heads shaved.

April is Cancer Awareness Month in Brazil, and ad agency Ogilvy Brazil has created a campaign to help support kids with the disease that features various famous cartoon characters – including Garfield, Popeye and Hello Kitty – all with their heads shaved.

The campaign is for GRAACC, a children’s cancer hospital in Brazil, and aims to reduce some of the stigma that children feel about having a bald head when receiving treatment for cancer. It is centred around a website – baldcartoons.com – where visitors can pledge their support and also download images of the cartoon characters to use on Facebook. There are also a series of print ads to download, and even clips from cartoons where the bald characters have made appearances on TV.
