Charli XCX unites ‘hot internet girls’ in new video

Regular collaborator Aidan Zamiri has directed the music video for 360, which features a boardroom meeting of the internet’s favourite leftfield stars

Ahead of the release of her new album Brat, Charli XCX has released a new music video bringing together the who’s who of “hot internet girls”.

Members include Julia Fox, Gabbriette, and pretty much anyone who’s a little leftfield, dips effortlessly between music, acting and modelling, and is “really hot in, like, a scary way”. Together, they have collectively spearheaded the current wave of slightly goth, slightly alien aesthetics in fashion, beauty, and creative direction.

The pretext for the star-studded line-up is a pressing boardroom meeting to elect a new hot internet girl, or else, Chloe Cherry warns, “our kind will cease to exist. Forever.”

The video also features cameos from some of the earlier pioneers of this niche both behind and in front of the lens, from model and actor Chloë Sevigny to make-up artist Isamaya Ffrench. We can only assume FKA twigs and Caroline Polachek were unavailable at the time of recording.

The video has been directed by rising filmmaker Aidan Zamiri, who has become alt-pop’s go-to collaborator over the last year or so. While 360 has many of the trappings of a classic pop music video, the dialogue coats it with a knowing layer of humour – one of the most important, and most overlooked characteristics of a hot internet girl.
