Based in the City of London, Samsung Design Europe was set up in 2000 as the electronics giant’s first design centre outside Korea. Roberts joined in 2002 and now oversees a team of designers that encompasses user experience design, graphic design, graphic user interface design, prototyping and motion design. Their work spans Samsung’s product range, from washing machines and TVs to, of course, mobile phones.
Roberts’ team conducts projects that are both solutions for the current product range and advanced future-focused designs, looking at opportunities through understanding user needs and expectations to create meaningful design. Roberts has worked on projects such as helping to set the UX vision of the Galaxy S7 and was recognised as designer of the year for Samsung in 2008.
