Ben Young, Joe Hartley and Jess Higham first worked together under the guise of Oh Ok Ltd, which was launched in 2016 around a shared belief that “places work better when everybody is involved with building them”. The trio then went on to found Standard Practice studio in 2018. The company’s working practice is highly interdependent, with the founders seeking to actively involve the public as both participant and collaborator in the realisation of their work. Major projects have included the creation of The Pilcrow, a pub within the NOMA development in Manchester that was built from scratch in partnership with the local community; and Plant, a workshop, gallery and ‘village hall’ space, open for use by the public in the centre of Manchester. In addition, Standard Practice has delivered large scale public art and furniture projects for a number of events in the city.
