Lauren Laverne famously began her musical career while still at school. Following some moderate chart success with her indie band Kenickie, she moved into broadcasting, first at XFM and then BBC 6 Music where she now hosts a daily show, as well as Late Night Woman’s Hour for Radio 4 and various TV presenting gigs. But it is as co-founder of The Pool that Laverne really earls her place in our 50. The Pool is one of a clutch of new media platforms seeking to reinvent the women’s interest sector. A website for “women too busy to browse”, it provides news and comment on fashion, culture, food, music and literature.
