Nadine Chahine is the UK Type Director, Legibility Expert and Arabic Specialist at Monotype. She recently led the development of a typeface for Dubai – which is free to download and use – and the remastering of Transport for London’s iconic typeface, Johnston.Chahine has also created Arabic versions of Frutiger, Helvetica and Zapfino and worked closely with German designer Hermann Zapf to develop Palatino Arabic. She has carried out extensive studies around legibility in partnership with the MIT Age Lab, and is currently investigating how we read in quick-glance environments – for example, on outdoor screens or in VR – with the aim of creating a best practice toolkit for use by designers.
