Artist Maurizio Cattelan and photographer Pierpaolo Ferrari first worked together as imagemakers in 2009, creating a prescient editorial for W magazine’s annual Art Issue. The pair went on to create TOILETPAPER in 2010, their biannual art magazine (art directed by Micol Talso) for which they create photographs that fuse the vernacular of commercial imagemaking with witty tableaux and surrealism. The bright, poppy TOILETPAPER aesthetic has since found favour with commercial clients, including dating app OkCupid and, most succesfully, Kenzo for whom they have created a series of fun, vibrant, much-copied advertising campaigns.
