Life Kitchen was founded by Ryan Riley, a food writer and stylist whose mother Krista died of lung cancer in 2013.

Around 80% of people receiving chemotherapy experience a loss or change of taste. Life Kitchen’s classes are focused on making nutritious dishes and adapting recipes to account for this change.

The first classes took place at River Cottage in February and were co-hosted by Riley and former Great British Bake Off presenter Sue Perkins.

Riley now hopes to host more classes around the country and is holding an auction of plates designed by creatives to raise some much-needed funding.

Riley and design studio hat-trick invited a range of creatives to design a custom plate for the charity. Contributing artists include photographer Giles Revell, graphic artist Noma Bar, cartoonist Tom Gauld and design studios Here, Magpie and NB Studio.

The plates will be auctioned off tonight at Spanish restaurant Rambla in Soho. The auction begins at 6pm and is hosted by food critic Jay Rayner.

hat-trick has also been working with Life Kitchen to create the charity’s visual identity and has incorporated plate designs into the branding. Images of plates are featured on badges, bags, business cards and a soon-to-launch website. hat-trick also created a ‘mini menu’ of plate designs to raise awareness of the auction.
