Danish Women’s Society joins forces with YouPorn for ad campaign

It might seem like an unlikely pairing but a clever collaboration between The Danish Women’s Society and YouPorn has already been hugely successful in raising awareness around revenge porn.

The campaign, #AskFirst, centres on a film, which was hosted on user-generated porn site YouPorn as well as on YouTube, and titled ‘Ex-girlfriend doesn’t know that I shared this!’

The film, shown below, initially plays out with an exchange between a woman and her boyfriend, which shows her being persuaded, reluctantly, to remove her clothes for the camera. At this stage however, events take an unexpected turn.

The woman turns not on the man making the film, but on the audience watching it, pointing out that by voyeuristically viewing the content – which by its title is obviously revenge porn – they are participating in her abuse.

Alongside the film, the campaign saw the introduction of a dedicated educational channel on YouPorn and the launch of a content removal page to help victims of revenge porn remove videos faster. PornHub and Redtube also supported the campaign, which has already received over 1.5 million views since its launch at the end of March.
