Design Indaba Festival returns to Cape Town, February 21 to 24

Morag Myerscough, Tom Dixon, Es Devlin, Edel Rodriguez and Natasha Jen are just some of the speakers in Design Indaba 2018’s impressive line-up

Design Indaba’s annual conference takes place from February 21 to 24 in Cape Town’s Artscape Theatre Centre, and as it does each year, it brings together a great line-up of speakers.

This year’s list includes designer Morag Myerscough, known for her massive artworks that for decades have livened up the streets of London, Es Devlin, set designer for the likes of Beyoncé, Kanye West, U2 and Adele and Pentagram Partner Natasha Jen. Also speaking at the event will be illustrator Edel Rodriguez, whose anti-Trump artwork has graced many a magazine cover and internet meme.

Design Indaba will also introduce attendees to the work of African design innovators and entrepreneurs, like Leroy Mwasaru who founded renewable energy enterprise Greenpact at just 16 years of age and Mark Kamau who has been working to bring affordable WiFi access to remote parts of Kenya.

The conference is accompanied by an Emerging Creatives exhibition, a music and performing arts festival Nightscape and a pop-up restaurant by celebrity chef Bertus Basson. Plus an annual competition to find the Most Beautiful Object in South Africa and a trends forecast with Li Edelkoort.
