Situated in the Atacama Desert, one of the driest environments on earth, Chile’s Paranal Observatory benefits from crystal clear skies for 99.9% of the year. “At night, the telescopes move around, scanning the sky to build up images, focused by vibrating mirrors,” says Redgrove.
