The festival takes place from October 19-25 at The Lighthouse, Scotland’s Centre for Design and Architecture. The event was founded last year by Beth Wilson and James Gilchrist of Warriors Studio, with the aim of promoting Scottish design talent, providing a platform for new creatives and boosting public engagement with graphic design.
This year’s events include a live two-day project, where young designers will create work in response to a brief set by Riposte magazine’s Danielle Pender. Participants will receive help and guidance from top Scottish creative agencies and finished work will be judged by a panel including Pender, Creative Scotland, It’s Nice That and Creative Review’s Rachael Steven.
Studios from HelloMe to Colophon, Workhouse Press, CodeBase, The Rodina and Studio Moross will be hosting one and two-day creative workshops and taking part in a one-day conference hosted by Rob Alderson on October 25.
From October 23 – November 12, the Lighthouse will also showcase the top 100 designs from the Graphic Design Festival’s annual international poster design competition, chosen from over 3,400 entries. Winners will be selected by Adrian Shaughnessy, Warriors Studio, Erich Brechbul and Spin’s Tony Brook and announced on the opening night.
Other exhibitions include Off Grid, featuring work by set designers, illustrators, typographers, ceramicists and visual artists and THYPE, a showcase of lettering. Artists and designers will also be painting murals in the centre of the city.
