Immortal: a new show and publication from Warren Du Preez and Nick Thornton Jones

Immortal is a spectacular collection of images produced in the last 12 months by photographic duo Warren Du Preez and Nick Thornton Jones and their cast of collaborators

Those working with the duo include Dutch fashion designer Iris van Herpen (see our profile on her here), Björk, model Daria Werbowy, installation artist Rebecca Louise Law, light artist Chris Levine and UNKLE’s James Lavelle.

Immortal comes as a limited edition boxset, with a choice of four different colours, including 20 fold-outs, a booklet and two posters. As with everything Du Preez and Thornton Jones do, this is no ordinary production. With seven-colour printing onto iridescent stocks utilising specially-formulated high-pigment inks and stochastic screening, it’s a hymn to the printer’s art and apparently pushed the print and pre-press team at Park Communications to their limits.

We’ve tracked Du Preez and Thornton Jones’ career for two decades. Their work has always been characterised by an unrelenting commitment to pushing ideas, processes and techniques to the absolute limit and carrying their collaborators along with their infectious, inexhaustible enthusiasm. Many of the projects in Immortal started as simpler commissions which the duo carried on, funded by themselves, until the point where they finally felt happy that they had reached some sort of creative conclusion.

For our 2015 Annual cover, we worked with the duo to create a stunning portrait of model Daria Werbowy, bedecked in Rebecca Louise Law’s flowers.

What started out as a photographic idea, then became a film and now, for the exhibition accompanying Immortal’s release, a 3D printed sculpture.

Also on show at London’s Gallery 46 (until March 18) is Du Preez and Thornton Jones latest VR collaboration with Björk and Analog, Notget (read our interview with Björk about her use of VR here).

When craft is continually cast aside in favour of ‘good enough’ Du Preez and Thornton Jones continue to inspire.

Immortal is at Gallery 46, 46 Ashfield St, London E1 2AJ until March 18. Details on the show and also the Immortal boxset here
