Justine Jossart on combining design with illustration

The graphic designer and illustrator talks about the value of combining her passions, and how expanding her personal practice into different mediums has brought her joy

Graphic designer and illustrator Justine Jossart often combines both disciplines in her projects, feeling as though each one can serve the other. Illustrations feature boldly in her brand work and graphic elements like type and text in her illustrations.

While both are important to the creative, Jossart’s digital illustrations, which she creates on her tablet with ProCreate, save time and give her freedom to manage her colour palettes, textures and typography more easily, especially when it comes to experimentation.

When choosing which projects to take on, Jossart often finds herself drawn to independent clients. “Ones who have good values with interesting projects, which allow me to put all my creativity in their projects,” she says. “It happened most recently, where creative was needed for a podcast, for a festival, and for an album cover. The projects I work on are varied, and allow me to flourish in graphics and illustration.”
