Kahlúa is taking on Guinness on St Patrick’s Day

It’s a battle of the black stuff as the Mexican coffee liqueur brand offers up an expresso martini as an alternative celebratory drink for those who are ‘bored of stout’

You might think that Guinness has long cornered the St Patrick’s Day market, but this cheeky campaign, created by Wieden+Kennedy London, is offering drinkers an alternative tipple this year.

Via a series of witty OOH ads and a commercial, the campaign proposes that you can still blend with crowd while drinking Kahlúa instead. The film is from Derry Girls director Michael Lennox and stars the popular Irish TikTok father-son duo, Tadhg and Derry Fleming, plus Ian Ryan, stout aficionado and founder of Beautiful Pints. The campaign also features additional social content by Ryan, the Flemings, and former Irish Rugby player Rory Best.

The St Patrick’s Day work follows last year’s Kahlúa campaign which saw Salma Hayek offering drinks options to those who were ‘bored of wine’.

“One minute we’re kicking down doors with a movie star; the next we’re coming for stout’s spotlight on St Patrick’s Day,” say Philippa Beaumont and Freddy Taylor, creative directors at Wieden+Kennedy London. “Who knows where Kahlúa will take us next, but we’re excited to stir more things up.”
