Life in Design: Fraser Muggeridge

The latest addition to art publisher Frieze’s Video website is a great little film on the work of graphic designer Fraser Muggeridge and his London-based studio…

In the film, Muggeridge discusses his work and also his personal influences and interests, such as that of Willem Sandberg, Wolf Vostell and the 1970s British magazine, Japanese Schmuck (below), with its focus on Fluxus and mail art.

New work for the Barbican’s Magnificent Obsessions exhibition (where the studio used around 80 images on the posters to reflect the range of the collected objects on show), is also featured, alongside some of Muggeridge’s on-going work for the Focal Point Gallery in Southend-on-Sea (both shown below).

It’s an interesting watch, not just for the glimpses into the tactile, playful projects which have informed Muggeridge’s own studio work – but for some great insight into the process of actually making graphic design.

Directed by Jesse Watt. Produced by Amy Sherlock. Camera Hopi Allard. A Frieze Film in association with Pundersons Gardens. See video.frieze.com. More of Muggeridge’s work at pleasedonotbend.co.uk.
