Marsala: Pantone’s Colour of the year 2015

Farewell Radiant Orchid, we hardly knew you (or noticed you being used very much). Hello Marsala, Pantone’s Colour of the Year for 2015

Apparently, Marsala, or 18-1438 to its friends, will “enrich our mind, body and soul, exuding confidence and stability” according to Pantone Colour Institute executive director Leatrice Eiseman.

To those of us in the UK, it may be hard to think of the word Marsala without ‘Chicken’ and ‘Tikka’ in front of it (yes, we know the spelling is different) but Pantone is actually referencing the wine rather than the curry house favourite.

“Much like the fortified wine that gives Marsala its name, this tasteful hue embodies the satisfying richness of a fulfilling meal while its grounding red-brown roots emanate a sophisticated, natural earthiness,” Pantone say.
