New online book service lets you star in a classic novel

Party New York has created a new website that totally appeals to the geeky teenage girl in me: by simply entering a few details on a website, you can be the star of a classic novel! And yes, you can even buy the book…

Party has created Bookü, a book customisation system that allows you to become a character in various famous stories (whose copyrights have expired). So far the titles on offer include Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Anne of Green Gables, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde.

The website, at, is easy to use. You simply enter your name, to alter the book’s title, before then entering the names that you’d like to give to the other central characters (I will spare you the details of my choices here, so have left the original characters in place)…

Finally, you can place a photograph of yourself on the back, and then order your own unique copy of the book.

And once you’ve got over your own ego trip, you can also start creating books using your friends and colleagues’ names too, and create the perfect seasonal gift:

And this year, some of the best examples we’ve seen have used typography alone to get their festive greetings across
