Nice work for Sony, HSBC, BMW and more

Lots of lovely new advertising work to share with you this week. First up is a charming spot from McCann Worldgroup, directed by Wes Anderson. Lots of lovely new advertising work to share with you this week. First up is a charming spot from McCann Worldgroup, directed by Wes Anderson. The ad is for Sony Xperia smartphones, and features an eight year-old boy explaining how he imagines the phones work. Naturally it’s much more fun than the reality…

This HSBC spot is from JWT London and promotes the financial group’s co-sponsorship (with Cathay Pacific) of the 2012 Sevens rugby tournament. Reminiscent of the classic Nike ads which took sporting events onto the streets of cities (including this one), the ad sees teams of fancy dress-clad rugby players take the game onto the streets of Hong Kong. WCRS has created a series of short documentary films for BMW, to celebrate the car brand’s Olympics 2012 sponsorship. The films are shot by leading British documentary directors, including Asif Kapadia (Senna) and Stevan Riley (Fire In Babylon). They give an insight into Olympics stars past and present: the short above, shot by Kapadia, tells the story of Steve Cram’s Olympics experiences. Other films focus on Rebecca Adlington, Louis Smith and Paralympics star David Weir.

Also from WCRS is this print campaign for the new ‘supercar event’ The Run To Monaco, which is produced by The Run To Global Ltd, in conjunction with the Financial Times. Creative directors: Billy Faithfull, Ross Neil. Creatives: David Dearlove, Richard Nott.

The Red Brick Road’s new spot for Magners cider celebrates the fact that the drink is made in the dark, “for a better taste”, by wittily showing how other social activities might be better at night. On March 17, Ted Baker launched its Spring/Summer 2012 collection in an unusual way. Collaborating with a host of illustrators, the brand created a bespoke fashion portrait service called Ted’s Drawing Room. Customers were invited to nine stores (seven in the UK, and two in New York) and invited to try on pieces from the new collection before posing for a photo. These shots were then sent to an artist’s studio, where the illustrators chose certain images to turn into drawings. Customers who were lucky enough to be picked by an illustrator were then sent their original portrait to keep. The film above explains the project in more detail. Creative agency: Guided Collective.

We finish with the latest from the Unit9 Hoxton Window Project, which sees the London-based digital production company invite illustrators to create an original mural on their office windows, which overlook Hoxton Square. Hattie Stewart is behind the latest creation, and the film above shows how she did it.
