Niceaunties stretches reality with her AI creations

Inspired by Asian ‘auntie culture’ and the influential women in her life, the artist creates AI-based works that explore beauty, ageing and personal freedom. She talks to us about her process and some of the debates surrounding AI

Artist Niceaunties has built a body of work that links to a childhood shaped by the influential women in her family who she refers to affectionately as her ‘aunties’.

Drawing inspiration from these figures, and overall ‘auntie culture’ prevalent in Asian communities worldwide, Niceaunties’ work delves into themes of ageing, beauty, personal freedom and everyday life. To heighten the playfulness of the themes she’s exploring, the artist creates her works using AI, which she first started using at the beginning of 2023.
