NSynth Super by Google Creative Lab

This project has been selected in the Digital – Craft & Technical Innovation category in The Annual 2019, CR’s award scheme celebrating the best in commercial creativity

NSynth Super allows musicians to access sounds created using NSynth – an AI-powered algorithm that learns the characteristics of different instruments and combines them to create new sounds.

More than 100,000 sounds were loaded on to the touchscreen device, which can be plugged into any MIDI controller, such as a sequencer or keyboard. “Without the interface we created, this would be a big folder of sound files. Instead it’s something that can be used to make music,” says Google Creative Lab.

The prototype was given to musicians and the hardware is open source, meaning anyone can download source files, design templates and schematics from GitHub to create their own version.
