Personal: Coming Through in Waves

Bharat Sikka’s Coming Through in Waves explores a range of topics in his home country of India – from identity and gender, to the realities of middle-class life.

The images, all shot on an analogue camera, are an expression of the photographer’s long-standing fascination with youth culture, featuring individuals Sikka has met through work and social media. He builds an ongoing relationship with these subjects, collaborating with them on images and requesting to photograph their houses, often returning to take more pictures months later.

Although very much in the realm of the everyday, there’s a dream-like feeling to the images, which often seem to belong to a fictional, filmic world.
