While a spanky new Nike iD studio opens up in London’s Nike Town, tonight (see previous post), a very different expression of sneaker customisation will be arriving in Manchester’s Thunder Egg store – in the form of exhibition, Pimp My Pump.

Initiated by Lazy Oaf, the concept of Pimp My Pump is pretty straightforward: The girls at Lazy Oaf approached a host of illustrators whose work they admire and asked them to customise a pair of plain pumps. Simple – and the results are invariable jolly, bright, colourful, one-off artworks by the likes of Al Heighton, Kate Moross, Ian Stevenson, Kate Sutton, Peskimo, Super Super – and many more contributors. We’ve had a look at some of the pumps and have picked out some of our favourites.

Pimp My Pump runs at Thunder Egg, 22 Oldham Street, Manchester M1 1JN from this Friday until 7th November.

Exhibitors include:
Joe List, Bob London, My Paper Crane, Hi Calorie, One Side Zero, Kate Sutton, Andrew James Jones, Andy Forshaw, Dan Has Potential, Adrian Johnson, Peskimo, Dr Dinnermint, Al Heighton, Ian Stevenson, Gemma Correll, Jon Burgerman, Garth Jones, Mark Taplin, Lee Ford, Kate Moross, Luke Best, playmoo, Super Super, Joe Baglow, Simeon Merivale, Thom Dowse, Concrete Hermit, Made Not Born, Love From Hetty & Dave, Amelie Le Roux, John Slade, Sarah Lawrence, Brennan & Burch, Rosy Nicholas and Eithne Farry

If you’re feeling inspired, Lazy Oaf sell a DIY Pumps pack that includes white pumps and a selection of coloured fabric pens. Visit their site here: www.lazyoaf.co.uk
