The film cheekily references a wide selection of familiar traits seen in videos of late, including wacky (but low budget) visual effects, gritty urban black-and-white scenes, and, of course, the penchant many directors have for encouraging pretty ladies to take their tops off – in the name of art, of course. To redress the balance, Buxton even slips in a reference to one of his own low-budget vids, created alongside Garth Jennings for Radiohead’s Jigsaw Falling Into Place, in which he asked the band to wear cycling helmets with cameras attached.

The first series of BUG, hosted by Buxton, is on Sky Atlantic now, more info is here.
