Prayers to Myself by Samira Saidi

Honourable Mention – Personal

“Prayers to Myself is a visual story depicting a gentle and different angle towards religion, focusing especially on Islam,” says photographer Samira Saidi. In this body of work, Saidi hopes to show another side of Islam, away from the negative portrayal of Muslims that often appears in the news.

“[The project is] redirecting the focus towards the simple understanding of religion as a connective experience between body and nature,” she continues. “[I hope to] open up a world with different realities that allows Muslims to exist as individuals with their own thoughts and ideas.”
