“We have used the alphabet to map out the A-Z of what makes Britain great,” says the Royal Mint’s Anna Powell in a blog post.

The Mint is inviting people to take part in a Great British Coin Hunt to find all 26 coins in their change, using an app to help them (serious collectors though can buy the complete set here).

The coins’ designs range from celebrating landmarks such as the Angel of the North (20 years old this year) and serious British accomplishments such as the NHS and World Wide Web, to honouring  the full English breakfast and the nation’s supposed predilection for queuing.

Also featured are King Arthur, James Bond, the Loch Ness Monster and the Yeoman Warders of the Tower of London. X is for X Marks the Spot (presumably a Treasure Island reference) while Z is for Zebra Crossing.

This is the first time that the Royal Mint has used the reverse of the 10p for commemorative designs.
