Rian Hughes on his new book and how to create graphic novels

In illustrator and type designer Rian Hughes’ new graphic novel I Am A Number, everyone knows their place. Until they don’t. We speak to him about creating the book and the essential qualities of a great graphic novel

Rian Hughes’ new book depicts a world in which everyone has a number. Order reigns, until some citizens start to question the numerals that adorn their chests and what they mean. When they challenge the system, things begin to fall apart.

This all-ages graphic novel is the first that Hughes has both written and drawn. We spoke to him about the book.
