“London is the best city in the world. It is entrepreneurial, international and full of creativity and possibility. The key ingredient of our success is the flow of ideas and talent from all over the world,” says the Mayor. “After the referendum on the UK’s membership of the European Union, it’s now more important than ever to show that our city is united. As always, our capital will be open for business and open to the world.”
Khan is now inviting creatives from London and beyond to come together and spread this message of inclusivity and openness. “The Mayor would like to encourage creatives to submit a visual interpretation of #LondonIsOpen as part of an open source campaign,” a spokesman says.
The brief is to spread the message that London is open for business, music, food, drink, sport, art and more using the hashtag #LondonIsOpen. Submissions can be of existing work that expresses this ideal or can be original work. All copyright will be retained by the artists and creatives.
Some of the work will be shared across social platforms and different media from billboards to theatres, at sporting and cultural events until the end of the year. There will also be an exhibition at City Hall during Open House in September.
“Now’s the time to make this message clear to everyone – that our city is comfortable in its diversity, proud of its history and optimistic about its future. London is open,” Khan says.
Submissions should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org with the title “London is open submission” by July 22.
