This week’s round up brings together new ads for VW, Pepsi Max, the Sochi Paralympics, Sony and Widerøe Airlines. First up though is the follow-up to last year’s hugely successful dancing pony spot for mobile network 3. This one continues the ‘silly stuff’ theme and features a little girl and her singing pet cat – but does it live up to expectation?
Well, sadly, no. Despite slick direction from Traktor, the ad just lacks the weird charm of the pony for me. Plus, surprising as it is to admit this, I’m beginning to wonder if I’ve seen enough singing cats to last a lifetime. But perhaps I’m lacking in Friday fun – what do you all think? Agency: Wieden + Kennedy London; Creative directors: Dan Norris, Ray Shaughnessy; Creatives: Chris Lapham, Aaron McGurk, Luke Tipping; Production company: Partizan; Directors: Traktor; Post: MPC.
Next up are two new spots for VW from Adam&EveDDB, which illustrate the importance of choosing quality over a bargain. Creatives: Rob Messeter, Mike Crowe; Production company: Outsider; Director: James Rouse; Post: MPC.
AMV BBDO is behind this new short for Pepsi Max, which sees stuntman Damien Walters run a human loop the loop. The film takes a little while to get going, but is pretty cool when it gets to the stunt itself. Creatives: Gary Lathwell, Richard Peretti; Production company: Little Dot Studios; Director: Selena Miles.
The latest work in Sony’s new ‘Be Moved’ campaign is this four-minute documentary about the epic and incredible model railway, Northlandz. The film is a subtle promotion of Sony’s QX100 phone-camera but is really all about Northlandz and its charmingly eccentric creator. Very watchable. Agency: Wieden + Kennedy Portland; Creative director: Mike Giepert, Dan Hon; Creatives: Charlie Gschwend, Devin Gillespie, Billy McDermott; Production company: M ss ng P eces; Director: Josh Nussbaum.
This simple but powerful film was created by BBDO Toronto to get Canadians excited about the forthcoming Sochi Paralympics. ECDs: Carlos Moreno, Peter Ignazi; Associate creative directors: Simon Craig, JP Gravina; Production company: Sons & Daughters; Director: David Quinn; Post: Ricochet Post.
We finish with a bit of romance, with this new spot for Widerøe Airlines from McCann Oslo. The spot follows the successful Grandpa’s Magic Trick ad, and is shot with similar elegance by director Marius Holst. Creatives: Torstein Greni, Stein Simonsen; Production company: 4 1/2.
