Stephan Dybus on not being locked into one discipline

The artist and illustrator has worked across different industries and fields in both his personal and commercial practice. Here he tells CR the advantages of doing so

Having a sense of humour when it comes to the work you create, particularly illustration, can be incredibly valuable in being able to translate tricky subjects, as well as highlighting universal truths in a disarming way.

“Take a look at who you are, what you do and make a fun story out of that miserable, sad thing you are,” says Stephan Dybus on the best piece of advice he was given when starting out. “Because that is the story you can tell and there lies the humour, and people connect to humour. You need that connection because so far nobody cares about your work.”
