For the September issue of Creative Review we are putting together a round-up of some of the best work from this year’s graduating students – trolling round the degree shows in search of those treasured projects that just make you stop and mutter a little “Oh. Wow”.
In a few weeks’ time, we’ll be presenting our annual round up of the best student work from the recent degree shows here in the UK. There’ll be a selection of work in the magazine and also on the blog. As a taster, here’s one project that caught our eye at the Central Saint Martins BA Graphic Design show: Japanese student Maki Miura’s rather charming reinterpretation of the ubiquitous mobile phone bill…
“What the hell are you doing?” asked my editor when he spotted me, clearly on MySpace and watching an embedded movie of a girl writhing around on her bed wearing next to nothing. “Oh, this?,” I stuttered. “Erm, it’s a new campaign for Elle Macpherson’s Intimates range of lingerie,” I responded. “Honest.”
In last year’s Candlelight Competition, lighting company Mathmos, in collaboration with 100% East and Metropolitan Works, invited designers to create ideas for a Mathmos product on the theme of candlelight. Winner Richard Lawson’s idea has now gone into production as the 9 Volts Lamp.
