Studio Dempsey: Self-promotional postcards

After finally stepping down from CDT last year, the design studio that he co-founded, Mike Dempsey set up his own, far smaller operation to concentrate on projects of personal interest

Studio Dempsey’s identity plays on the notion of the imagination and its ever-changing nature. This series of postcards, part of the studio’s overall identity, shows how imagery within the simple generic head can be playful, practical or just beautiful in order to convey the spirit of its creator.

“I am so bored with the many pseudo-modernist, clinical identities in our industry that I decided to bring a bit of warmth, fun, and variation to the arena,” says Dempsey. “I am also in the process of producing a large format limited edition print of a new image inside of my head.”

Degree Shows 08: Royal College of Art (Show 2)

Karen Lacroix’s Now Now Now Now poster looks from a distance like it’s been painted. Closer inspection reveals the letterforms are made entirely from imagery from Google Earth. Snowy landscapes become less snowy. A comment on the effects on global warming
The Royal College of Art show is always one we look forward to here at Creative Review. Such a wealth of interesting projects – from posters and books to typographic exploration, projects that explore interactivity, great animation work and new product design. We had a look yesterday at the Communication Art & Design work and couldn’t help but notice that collaboration between the students seems to be a recurring theme this year. We took a few photos on our journey round the show…
