WeTransfer’s Talk to the Moon digital experience let users hold a conversation with AI persona Luna, described by the file-transfer service as a “curious, gender-nonconforming entity who is freely available to answer questions about life, the universe and everything in-between”.

The project was part of Nelly Ben Hayoun-Stépanian’s Tour de Moon arts festival – a four-day, three-city event that used parades, performances, workshops, talks and installations to prompt young people to “use radical imagination to create alternative futures”.

Sound effects and ambient sounds accompanied the AI experience, with Luna introduced via an introductory story that gave context to who they were. The AI’s emotional state was designed to change depending on the conversation, which was expressed via colour and moving image, with Luna shown as a halftone moon that changed and reacted while speaking. According to WeTransfer, the experience was intended to live somewhere between a visit to the therapist and an interactive zine.
