Ultra Violet: Pantone’s Colour of the Year 2018

It’s the announcement we’ve all been waiting for, Pantone has picked its colour of the year; a shade of blue-based purple which represents the “mysteries of the cosmos”

“We’re living in a time that requires inventiveness and imagination,” says Pantone, and hence has chosen the “complex and contemplative” Ultra Violet to be the Pantone Colour of the Year 2018.

Ultra Violet follows last year’s “life affirming” Greenery. After a year of reassuring brightness, the world is ready for creative inspiration as represented by a blue-based purple PANTONE 18-3838.

“From exploring new technologies and the greater galaxy, to artistic expression and spiritual reflection, intuitive Ultra Violet lights the way to what is yet to come,” explains Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of Pantone colour institute.

Pantone’s choice of colour of the year neatly coincides with the opening of London’s much anticipated new crossrail, The Elizabeth line, also represented by a punchy purple.
